Use sturdy boxes or shipping containers that can safely hold the contents. Make sure the boxes are in good condition and have no damage or labels from previous shipments. Fill the space within the box with suitable cushioning material such as bubble wrap, packing chips or padded inserts. The cushioning material protects the goods from impact and reduces the risk of damage during transport. If you are shipping multiple items, pack them individually before placing them in the shipping box. This prevents them from bumping into each other and becoming damaged during transport. Make sure the box is properly sealed to prevent accidental opening during shipping. Use high-quality packaging tape and thoroughly seal all openings and seams in the box.

If you want to send parcels to the United Kingdom, the right choice as shipping partners are the postal companies or DPD and GLS or, for very urgent shipments, DHL and UPS. The good news is that with pakajo you can easily combine the different shipping service providers and shipping methods via your account and therefore send your packages extremely flexibly!

If you select the postal company as your shipping service, these shipments will be handed over to the UK's state postal company, Royal Mail. Royal Mail will usually attempt delivery to the receiving address. If delivery is not successful, the shipment can be picked up at a branch. Delivery takes place from Monday to Friday. When shipping with a parcel or courier service provider, the recipients will be informed whether they can collect the packages from a parcel shop or a depot of the respective service provider.

Addressing of postal items in the UK corresponds to the European standard. PO Box addresses can only be delivered by Royal Mail. Otherwise we need a delivery address.

Always write the address left-justified in a uniform font and size and with the same line spacing. The font should be dark on a plain, light background and have no borders or highlights.

Shipments to the UK are usually delivered within 2-4 working days.

Express shipments usually take 1-2 days, but are also more expensive. It must be taken into account that customs inspections can lead to delays in transit times. These are quite strict when importing into the UK.

In the UK, all weekdays from Monday to Saturday inclusive are considered working days. But please note that the public holiday calendar there is different than in Germany. This can occasionally lead to unforeseen delays in UK parcel delivery.

Compared to other European countries, England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland have relatively few public holidays, for example there is no official national holiday. However, the rule there is that many of the public holidays, if they fall on a Saturday or Sunday, automatically lead to a non-working next working day (usually Monday); the holiday will be “made up for” so to speak.

There will be a total of 9 national holidays in England in 2023. Of these, 6 public holidays fall on a Monday, one falls on a Tuesday, one falls on a Friday and one falls on a Sunday.

If the holiday falls on a weekend, the next working day will be non-working.

Easter Monday is not a public holiday in Scotland; there are efforts to change this.

The pakajo tracking number "UPG-123456" is generated when the shipment is created. If desired, the recipient will receive a processing confirmation at the moment that their shipment is now being prepared for shipping. With the UPG number, the recipient can immediately track their shipment via the pakajo tracking page. Even for shipments without tracking, the recipient receives a processing and shipping confirmation.

As soon as the shipment has arrived at a pakajo shipping center, the shipment is confirmed in the pakajo system and receives a 9-digit "113456789" number.

Now the nine-digit number is married to the UPG number and all the necessary shipping information for the sender and the recipient is added to the shipment. The recipient now knows that his shipment is on the way to him.

When the shipment is processed, the final tracking number of the shipping service is now added to the shipment. The number often begins with LY or 0034, but this depends on the shipping service. As soon as the shipment has been recorded by the shipping service, a blue button from the postal and parcel service appears in the shipment tracking.

You can also track your pakajo shipments at aftership. You can find pakajo as a shipping service in the aftership portal. The aftership app also offers very good shipment tracking, which informs you of every current shipping status. At aftership you can enter your pakajo tracking numbers as follows and track your shipments: UPG-123456 / UPG123456 or 123456. Of course, you can also track your shipments using the final tracking numbers of the respective shipping providers, such as Deutsche Post, DHL, DPD, Post NL, bpost and many others.

NOTE: pakajo sends the recipients a delivery email that the shipment has been delivered or is ready for collection in the parcel shop!

DOCUMENTS REQUIRED FOR SHIPPING TO THE UNITED KINGDOM

CUSTOMS CONTENT DECLARATION

A customs declaration is very important for international shipping outside the EU. This declaration informs customs officials about the contents and value of your package. The information in the customs declaration is used to calculate the country-specific import sales taxes and customs duties, which then have to be paid by the recipient.

Due to customs regulations related to Brexit (Protocol on Northern Ireland - IE/NI Protocol), no customs documents are required for Northern Ireland. According to customs regulations, the export of commercial shipments containing goods to the UK (which no longer belongs to the customs territory of the EU) must be declared by the sender at a customs office before the shipment is posted if the value of the goods per shipment is more than EUR 1,000.00 or the goods are one subject to export restrictions or a special formality. The export accompanying document (ABD) with the MRN number (Movement Reference Number) must be enclosed with the shipment.

COMMERCIAL INVOICE

If you are shipping with parcel or courier services such as DPD, GLS, UPS or DHL, you will also need a commercial invoice in English or local language. It informs the customs officials about your goods, the entire shipping process and you as the sender. Please attach the commercial invoice to the outside of your package in a shipping bag. The commercial invoice must be attached to the package in triplicate. We currently only recommend postal delivery up to 2,000g or DHL as a parcel shipper.

TIP: To be on the safe side, also include a commercial invoice in the package

There is an exemption limit of 39 pounds (approx. 45 euros) for gift shipments. Gifts whose value exceeds this limit are subject to import sales tax. Customs duties are due from a value of 135 pounds.

Gift shipments must be accompanied by a proforma invoice with a detailed product description and the value of the gift. Please attach three copies of this to the outside of the package in a plastic sleeve and place one copy inside the package.

Every customs declaration requires an HS code number. This usually consists of 6 or 8 numbers. Pakajo has stored the customs database in the system for you in 10 languages. When you enter the first few characters in the description field, you will get suggestions about content descriptions for your CN22/23. The customs tariff number is then automatically entered into the HS Code field.

A record is not called a vinyl record in customs German, but a sondern Rillentonträger. The HS code is 85221000 for onabnehmer & Rillentonträger. You must enter "Rillentonträger" in the customs database to get the result. 

In any case, write out name until you get the optimum result.

CUSTOMS FORM FOR SHIPPING FROM THE EU TO THE UK

In order to make customs processing smooth, it is important to fill out the corresponding customs declaration CN 23 for parcel shipping outside the EU. Attach the document to the outside of your package in a shipping bag so that it is clearly visible. However, when shipping via post, the customs declaration CN 22 must be used. In any case, the customs declaration for shipping to the USA should be attached to the address page of your shipment.

Please note that the customs declaration for shipping to the UK must be completed in English. This ensures smooth processing by the British customs authorities. Make sure all information is correct and complete to avoid delays or problems with delivery.

HOW MUCH CUSTOMS DUTY DO I HAVE TO PAY WHEN SHIPPING TO THE UK?

If your shipment does not exceed £135.00 in value, you will need to make a VAT declaration and settlement with Her Majesty's Revenue and Customs (HMRC).

This means that as a business, if you want to export to the UK, you must apply for a UK EORI number (starting with "GB").

For shipments with a value exceeding 135.00 GPB, Royal Mail will charge the recipient the applicable duties and

taxes to the recipient, plus a collection charge of 8.00 GPB.

As an online retailer, you have an important responsibility when shipping to the UK. It is therefore essential that you check the contents of your package carefully, as some goods are excluded from shipping to the UK by both shipping service providers and applicable customs regulations.

To give you an initial overview, we have put together some of the goods that are not permitted for shipping to the UK or are subject to special regulations or approvals:

Narcotics: cannot be sent by post.

Dual-use goods, which can be used in both the civil and military sectors, are subject to restrictions when sent, including via the Internet (e.g. email), within the EU.

Cultural assets such as art objects, antiques, etc.: The cultural asset protection regulations must be adhered to.

Explosive substances are subject to the special shipping and transport regulations of dangerous goods law.

Weapons and ammunition: Further details are regulated by the Weapons Act.

Perfume is excluded from shipping to Jersey.

Important: The respective laws and customs regulations of the recipient country must be observed, especially when it comes to products and topics from the areas of eroticism, pornography, sexuality and/or religion or criticism of religion.

Responsibility for this lies solely with the sender. This document only presents the generally applicable German customs regulations. Dangerous goods transport exclusions/prohibited content

Excluded from postal transportation are letter mail items that do not comply with the conditions set out in the Universal Postal Treaty and the Supplementary Provisions, that do not comply with the provisions set out in the General Terms and Conditions of Letter International and that are sent in support of fraudulent activities or with the intention of evading full payment of the relevant charges.

The following items may not be shipped:

Narcotics and intoxicants and psychotropic substances, as defined by the International Narcotics Board, or other illegal drugs prohibited in the country of destination;

explosive, highly flammable or radioactive substances, medical examination items and dangerous goods that are not permitted under the Brief International General Terms and Conditions.

Also excluded from postal transport are:

obscene or immoral items;

counterfeit and pirated items;

replica explosive devices, inert explosive devices and military materials, including replica grenades, inactive hand grenades and similar items;

live animals with the exception of: bees, leeches and silkworms (but not in valuables); parasitism and destruction of harmful insects, which are intended to be kept under control by these insects and which are exchanged between officially recognized bodies (but not in valuable consignments); flies of the Drosophilidae family exchanged between officially recognized institutions for the purpose of biological research (but not in valuables);

other items whose import or distribution is prohibited in the country of destination;

Items that, due to their nature or packaging, pose a danger to postal employees and the public or that may contaminate or damage other shipments, postal facilities or the property of third parties;

Documents of the nature of a current and personal communication which are exchanged between persons other than the sender and the recipient or persons living with them;

Bearer papers of any kind, traveler's checks, platinum, gold or silver in processed or unprocessed form as well as jewels, jewelry and other valuables.

Exceptions: These items may be sent in insured consignments or, if the national legislation of the country of posting and the country of destination does not prevent this, in a sealed envelope as registered mail.

Consignments containing weapons, in particular firearms, or parts thereof, imitation weapons or ammunition.
